Have you ever watched a music video and wondered, where did they film this video? I want to go there!
Music videos have become a high-art genre, showcasing artists and their music, but also the incredible destinations where they are filmed. I was surprised when I started to draw #travelspiration from music, and if you’ve never considered music videos a source to research your upcoming travel plans, you’re about to see them in a whole new light.
So without further ado, here are the Top 7 Music Videos that will inspire you to explore a new corner of our beautiful, diverse, and mesmerizing world.
#1 Get a dose of cold water in Iceland.
Iceland’s breathtaking landscape is featured in many music videos, but one of my recent favourites is Cold Water by Major Lazer ft. Justin Bieber & MØ. You will immediately recognize Iceland’s trademark moss-covered lava fields, black sand beaches, and glacial lagoons. (Bieber also shot I’ll Show You in Iceland, and while I can’t conscionably recommend that you listen to more Bieber, this video does showcase some more spectacular Icelandic scenery.)
#2 Don’t get famous in Morocco.
Filmed in his hometown of Chefchaouen, Famous by French Montana showcases the colourful architecture, beautiful people, and striking nightlife of his native Morocco. This video will inspire you to wander the streets, light up a hookah, and learn a local dance move or two.
#3 Go apeshit in France…
The music video for Apeshit by The Carters was such a big deal that it helped break visitor records at The Louvre, already one of the most popular museums in the world. This video showcases some of the greatest artworks in The Louvre, including a significant cameo by Mona Lisa herself.
#4 …then find a reason to live.
After you’re done at The Louvre, head a few kilometres southeast of Paris to the Château de Fontainebleau, showcased in Born to Die by Lana Del Rey. This medieval palace is instantly recognizable as one of the largest in France, and is a scenic destination that you have to explore at least once in your life.
#5 Find fortune and glory in Jordan.
If you’re going to film a music video, you may as well make it impressive, and the Indiana Jones Medley by The Piano Guys is just that. This group is working on an ambitious project to film a music video at each of the World Wonders, and their video showcasing Al Khazneh, the Treasury at Petra, is one of their most exciting.
#6 Be hypnotized by the deserts of Arizona.
One of the most famous destinations in the United States of America gets a heavy feature in Grand Canyon by Puscifer. The band isn’t even in the video, which is an exclusive showcase of the Arizona landscape. The video is a speed-lapse of a day in the life of the desert, and as one Phoenix-based reporter put it, this video is best when viewed at full screen, full resolution, and full volume for maximum experience.
#7 Make money moves in Dubai.
Now the first solo woman to win the Grammy for Rap Album, Cardi B highlights the United Arab Emirates in her video for Bodak Yellow. The video showcases the city of Dubai, a caravan of camels, and the surrounding desert.
